Edith Wharton: Ethan Frome
Synopsis:
"It was not so much his great height that marked him ... it was the
careless powerful look that he had, in spite of a lameness checking each step
like the jerk of a chain". Set against the bleak winter landscape of New
England, "Ethan Frome" tells the story of a poor farmer, lonely and
downtrodden, his wife Zeena, and her cousin, the enchanting Mattie Silver. In
the playing out of this short novel's powerful drama, Edith Wharton constructed
her least characteristic yet most celebrated book. In its unyielding and
shocking pessimism, its bleak demonstration of tragic waste, it is a masterpiece
of psychological and emotional realism. In her introduction, critic Elaine
Showalter discusses the background to the novel's composition and the reasons
for its enduring success.

Rezension“ einer Schülerin (unverändert!): The book
"Kit's Wilderness", in that Kit a thirteen years old boy is, who moves
to a new town, finds new friends, who play a strange game called "DEATH".
One day the leader of the gang in that the game is played disappears... This
book is difficult to understand, because of many senless dialoges,
like:"What's it like" or "Eh? Eh?" or "living death"
(p.56, line 29-33) The Autor is trying to create a mystic atmosphear, but some
parts seams to be rediculous, without the intention.
But this book is good for training to read the text in English. (obviously not
quite good enough ;-) )

verständlich vom Wortschatz her. (für die Leute aus der Klasse 10). Man kann
Ann in so manchen Situationen wirklich gut verstehen und ihre Gefühle auch
nachvollziehen. Alles in allem eine wirklich lesenswertes Buch

Zindel: The Pigman (Dazu
Lernmaterialien bei Amazon erhältlich (von Dieter Vater) für € 7,80)
Synopsis:
The book I'm reviewing is called "The Pigman" by Paul Zindel.
This book involves a boy named John and a girl named Lorraine and a old man who
they called The Pigman. This story starts out when John and Lorraine spend there
time playing tricks on people. One time when they were walking down the street
they see a old house and walk over to it. They think its abandoned so they walk
in. In there they find a very old man and the man keeps repeating "Go away."
The next day they come back and bring the man some chocolates. The man seems
happy and tells him his name. My favorite part in the story is when they all go
roller blading in a store. It was very funny. In the end you who is the Pigman's
only friend I won't tell you now but if you would like to find out read the book.
I would recommend that if you love books you should read this one.
